The second biggest of the Ionian Islands that lie off Greece’s north west coast, Corfu is not only one of the Mediterranean’s more popular holiday destinations, it’s one of its most beautiful too. There is a very good reason for this, because Corfu probably has the highest rainfall. The weather in Corfu differs from the rest of the Greek Islands and Mainland Greece. Therefore, you should get a reliable forecast before booking accommodation in Corfu hotels. While it is sunny, warm and dry in the summer, the winter months are characterized by a fair amount of rainfall and humidity, although they are quite mild as well.

The humidity and rainfall are what make Corfu, and the rest of the Ionian Islands, lush with vegetation. As Corfu weather tends to be a little cooler than other regions of Greece, it is recommended that visitors have a light jacket handy in the evening. The Ionian Islands are not affected by the Meltemi winds, as are the Cyclades and the Dodecanese Islands. In July and August, the prevailing wind is the Maestral, which is a calm, northwesternly wind. If you are a sun worshiper, then July and August is the best season to go to Corfu. Temperatures during the day will always be in the 35C and will regularly go over 40C. Remember though, that Mid July though to the end of August will be the busiest time. Also in August it is possible to be caught in a summer storm. If the heat and crowds put you off, then go for the quieter periods; June and September. Warm summer days with cool evenings. May and October can provide spectacular holidays with quiet deserted beaches, but there is a possibility of rain. Bring the essential clothing just in case.
